(The enemy they defeated had gold earrings, as was the fashion of the Ishmaelites.)

So they spread a cloak, and each of the men threw in an earring he had taken as spoils of battle; ²⁶ and the weight of the gold earrings was over 42 pounds of gold, which does not include the crescents, the ornaments, and the purple garments they had taken from the kings of Midian, and the collars they had taken from the necks of their camels.
